PBSI Targets a Piece of Gold Medal at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand

iMSPORT.TV – The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is fielding a squad dominated by young players for the Southeast Asian multi-sport event, the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

As reported on the PBSI’s official website on Friday (10/31/2025), Indonesia is sending 10 male and 10 female athletes each to the 2025 SEA Games.

The squad is dominated by young players such as Alwi Farhan (men’s singles), Moh Zaki Ubaidillah (men’s singles), Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari (women’s singles), and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu (mixed doubles).

Despite fielding a predominantly young squad, PBSI is still targeting a gold medal.

That gold medal is expected to be won by women’s singles player Putri Kusuma Wardani, also known as Putri KW, who is currently ranked 7th in the world.

This hope is certainly not far-fetched considering Putri’s recent achievements. Putri successfully reached the semifinals at the 2025 World Championships and the 2025 Korea Open.

Most recently, Putri reached the semifinals of the 2025 Hylo Open, currently taking place in Germany.

I see Putri gaining confidence after winning a bronze medal at the world championships, and I see her playing trend improving,” said Eng Hian, Head of Development and Achievement at PBSI, as quoted on the PBSI website.

At this SEA Games, I hope she can be a good driving force in the team event and win a gold medal in the individual event,” he added.

The gold medal target is predicted to be difficult to achieve. Thailand, as the host, is expected to field its best players, including in the women’s singles event.

Eng Hian explained the reason PBSI is fielding a squad dominated by young players at the 2025 SEA Games.

These young players need competitive experience and varied playing time as part of the process of reaching maturity,” he said.

“Therefore, we decided to send them to a tournament with a different feel from the usual (world tour series) to a multi-event tournament.
