Ministry of Youth and Sports Completes Review of 52 Sports for the 2025 SEA Games: Medal Targets to be Announced Next Week
According to the interim review results, the Indonesian contingent will lose 41 gold medals because the sports that were competed in the 2025 edition will not be included in the 2026 edition. However, there will be an additional 32 gold medals from other sports played in Thailand.

Technically, in 2023, we won 87 gold medals in Cambodia. Several sports and events won’t be competed in the 2025 SEA Games, meaning Indonesia’s contingent will lose around 41 gold medals,” Surono explained, as quoted on Friday (November 7, 2025).

However, there are several opportunities in sports that won’t be competed in Cambodia but will be competed in Thailand, which have the potential to win 32 gold medals,” he continued.

So, if we total it up, we’ve only won 78 gold medals. To achieve this, or even maintain our third place, we need to secure at least 13.84% to 15.90% of the total medals up for grabs, which is around 577,” added the bespectacled man.

However, Surono stated that this is still preliminary. The results of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ overall review will be released next week after a meeting with Minister Erick Thohir, the sports branch executives, the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), and the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI).

Well, this is what we’re currently analyzing, so we can get the developments during the national training camp, based on the good reports from several general chairmen who came in person. Hopefully, we’ll report to the Minister next week,” said Surono.

It also looks like there will be a special meeting next week to discuss the synchronization and review results for the 50 sports, as well as to map out medal targets, positions, and so on. Hopefully, we’ll complete it soon,” he concluded.

Currently, Surono and his team have reviewed all the Indonesian contingent sports that will compete in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. A total of 52 sports will be represented in the biennial multi-sport event.

The current SEA Games will take place in Thailand from December 9-20. The Indonesian contingent finished third in the final standings in the 2023 edition with a collection of 87 gold medals, 80 silver medals, and 109 bronze medals.
