iMSPORT.TV – Abiyu Raffi: Rising Star of Indonesia’s Artistic Gymnastics. Under the bright lights of international gymnastics arenas, Abiyu Raffi has emerged as one of Indonesia’s brightest hopes in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG). Born in Riau, he is known for his discipline, mental toughness, and lifelong dedication to the sport he has pursued since childhood.
Winning four gold medals at the 2024 National Sports Week (PON) cemented Abiyu’s place on Indonesia’s national MAG team alongside M. Aprizal, Agung Suci Tanto, Satria Tri Wira Yudha, and the late Naufal Takdir Al Bari. Together, they are set to represent Indonesia at the 53rd FIG Gymnastics World Championships 2025 in Jakarta.
Early Journey
Abiyu began his gymnastics career at a local club in Riau. His natural abilities in strength, flexibility, and body coordination quickly caught the attention of coaches.
Making his debut at the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua, Abiyu demonstrated great potential to compete at both national and international levels. He gained valuable experience competing in youth championships, learning to handle competitive pressure, setbacks, and the resilience to rise stronger after every challenge.
Strengths and Style
Known as a versatile gymnast, Abiyu regularly competes in multiple apparatus with consistent execution. His main strengths are the floor exercise and pommel horse, where his combination of power, balance, and artistic expression sets him apart.
Coaches praise Abiyu for his rare mental qualities. In every training session, he pays close attention to detail from landing techniques to body expression in finishing routines.
For Abiyu, gymnastics is more than a sport; it is a calling. Every leap, spin, and landing represents his dreams, struggles, and dedication to the Indonesian flag.
“Every pain in training is part of the road to the podium,” is the principle he lives by.
Role in the National Team
Within Indonesia’s Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) squad, Abiyu Raffi is not just a young gymnast gaining experience. He is an essential part of the team’s regeneration process, preparing for major events such as the FIG World Challenge Cup, the World Championships, the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Amidst the grief following the passing of teammate Naufal Takdir Al Bari during a training camp in Russia, Abiyu has shown resilience. Together with the rest of the Indonesian MAG team, he continues training with focus and determination, turning their performance into a tribute to their late friend.
