CAS rejects Israel’s appeal to join artistic gymnastics worlds in Indonesia

iMSPORT.TV – CAS rejects Israel’s appeal to join artistic gymnastics worlds in Indonesia. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially rejected the appeal filed by the Israel Gymnastics Federation (IGF) regarding its participation in the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Worlds Championships in Jakarta, scheduled for October 19–25, 2025.

CAS’s decision concerns two requests for provisional measures submitted by Israel related to the Jakarta 2025 World Championships.

The requests were filed after the Indonesian government announced that Israeli athletes scheduled to compete in the event would not be granted entry visas to Indonesia.

According to CAS, the Vice President of the Appeals Arbitration Division reviewed and rejected both urgent requests from the IGF.

The urgent requests for provisional measures have been considered by the Vice President of the CAS Appeals Arbitration Division. Both requests (from Israel) have been dismissed,” CAS stated on its official website on Wednesday.

In response, the IGF filed two appeals with CAS, seeking urgent interim relief.

The first appeal, submitted on October 10, 2025, was directed against the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), requesting that FIG annul Indonesia’s decision to deny visas to Israeli athletes.

The second appeal, filed on October 13, 2025, was made jointly with six qualified Israeli athletes: Artem Dolgophyat, Eyal Indig, Ron Payatov, Lihie Raz, Yali Shoshani, and Roni Shamay.

The IGF asked CAS to order FIG to take steps ensuring Israeli athletes’ participation in the championships or alternatively, to relocate or cancel the event.

The IGF argued that the FIG Statutes oblige the FIG Executive Committee to take action when visas are denied to any participating delegation.

According to IGF, FIG’s inaction constitutes a “denial of justice” and creates a discriminatory situation against one of its member associations.

Meanwhile, FIG emphasized that it has no authority over visa issuance to Indonesia.

FIG stated that the refusal of entry visas for Israeli nationals lies entirely outside its jurisdiction and responsibility.

CAS confirmed that the requests for provisional measures were reviewed by the Vice President of the Appeals Division, who decided to reject both IGF applications.

CAS also stated that the first appeal would be dismissed on jurisdictional grounds, while the second appeal will proceed to the next stage of the process.
