iMSPORT.TV – The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has conducted an inspection of Indonesia Arena ahead of the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, which will take place in Jakarta this October.
FIG praised the preparations while also providing several technical recommendations for improvements at the venue, located in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Sports Complex.
The inspection team, which visited on April 4, consisted of Donatella Sacchi and Celine Cachemaille from Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), as well as Andrew Tombs and Stephane Detraz from Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG). They were accompanied by Ita Yuliati, President of the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation, who also oversaw the accommodation facilities designated for the championships, scheduled for October 19–25, 2025.
Following the visit, Donatella Sacchi, President of FIG’s WAG Technical Committee, expressed her appreciation for Indonesia Arena’s readiness.
“I can see that Indonesia Arena will be one of the best venues for the World Championships. This visit has been a great opportunity for us to witness the progress of artistic gymnastics in Indonesia,” she said.
Sacchi, however, highlighted a key technical note concerning the lighting system, which she said needs refinement.
“Artistic gymnastics involves multiple apparatus, and every athlete requires optimal spotlighting when competing. When an athlete is performing on one apparatus, the lighting must focus solely on them. With the excellent preparations underway, I believe this issue can be resolved quickly,” she added.
Andrew Tombs, President of FIG’s MAG Technical Committee, emphasized that Indonesia’s preparations could serve as a turning point for the sport’s growth in the country.
“Gymnasts from all over the world will come to Indonesia. Olympic medalists and world champions will be here, and that will surely inspire new Indonesian talent,” Tombs said.

Indonesian Gymnastics Federation President Ita Yuliati also expressed her gratitude:
“We are thankful that FIG has responded positively to our preparations. Of course, there are several notes we need to follow up on, including strengthening coordination with the government, particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and other related institutions,” she explained.
Indonesia is the first Southeast Asian nation and only the fourth country in Asia to be entrusted with hosting this prestigious event.
Carrying the theme “Move to Inspire,” the 2025 World Championships aims to spread inspiration not only across Indonesia but also throughout Southeast Asia and the wider Asian region.
