
iMSPORT.TV – India made history at the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Manama, Bahrain, thanks to young weightlifter Priteesmita Bhoi. The 16-year-old set a new world youth record by lifting 92kg in the clean and jerk in the girls’ 44kg category on Sunday (Oct 26).
Her record-breaking lift earned her a gold medal in clean and jerk and a silver medal in the snatch with a 66kg lift. Her total of 158kg was the highest among the seven competitors in her category.
Priteesmita started strong with 87kg, followed by 90kg, and finally made history with 92kg. Wu Jihong of China took silver with 88kg, and Princess Jay Ann Diaz of the Philippines claimed bronze with 78kg.
This was India’s first individual gold medal at the Asian Youth Games 2025, with the other two golds coming from the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams.

In the boys’ 60kg category, Arumugapandian Maharajan won two silver medals, lifting 114kg in the snatch and 142kg in the clean and jerk.
Over in athletics, India’s girls’ medley relay team Edwina Jason, Tannu, Bhumika Nehate, and Shourya Ambure took silver after finishing the final in 2:09.65.
Meanwhile, Alphonsa Zinia Wriang claimed bronze in the girls’ Wai Kru (Muay Thai) event with a score of 8.47. Wai Kru is a traditional performance that athletes present before Muay Thai matches.

India Breaks World Youth Record at the 2025 Asian Youth Games
Later in the day, India’s mixed taekwondo team Hardik Ahlawat, Dhanashree Pawar, Gharluxmi Phurailatpam, and Nihal Dewali won bronze after losing 0–2 to Thailand in the semifinals. They had earlier defeated Hong Kong China (2–0) and Saudi Arabia (2–1).
The seven medals on Sunday brought India’s total medal count to 24 three gold, ten silver, and eleven bronze. A total of 222 Indian athletes are competing at the Games, which will conclude on October 31, 2025.
