iMSPORT.TV – The review team has finalized the determination of the medal potential of Indonesian sports at the 2025 SEA Games, to be held in Thailand in December.
Via social media accounts monitored in Jakarta on Friday, Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir shared the moment he led a meeting of the review team, which comprised various stakeholders, including sports experts and practitioners, regarding the determination of medal potential for the 2025 SEA Games.
“We are finalizing the sports with medal potential at the 2025 SEA Games,” Erick Thohir wrote.
The Minister of Youth and Sports ensured that every athlete participating in the SEA Games is the best athlete capable of achieving maximum performance for Indonesia.
Previously, the Minister of Youth and Sports had stated that Indonesia’s target for this SEA Games is to secure third place, equaling its achievement at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games with 87 gold, 80 silver, and 109 bronze medals.
To maintain its third-place finish, Indonesia must win at least 82 gold medals. The Minister of Youth and Sports admitted that the target was not easy to achieve because Indonesia’s top numbers at the previous SEA Games were not competed in Thailand.

He stated that Indonesia lost the opportunity to win 41 gold medals due to the host nation’s elimination of the event. The current gold medal count is around 46, far below the number needed to maintain third place.
Therefore, a review team consisting of experts, sports practitioners, representatives from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) conducted a review and evaluation of all sports to explore medal potential and achieve the minimum medal target.
During the review process, the Minister of Youth and Sports emphasized that each federation’s officials should be open and honest in communicating their targets.
“It’s better to be honest and open with the public than to raise expectations that are too high,” he said.
The review team evaluated each federation’s medal target and then analyzed it to determine a realistic target, which will then be announced to the public.
