The Indonesian Men's Basketball Team is Ready to Face New Regulations for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand

iMSPORT.TV – The Indonesian men’s basketball team is prepared to face new regulations for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, which restrict the use of naturalized players and only allow players with Indonesian passports who are at least 16 years old.

We will definitely follow the regulations of the SEA Games host. It has happened several times that the SEA Games regulations are used to fit the teams they form,” said Senior Men’s National Team Manager Rivaldo Tandra Pangesthio in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

The regulations do not allow naturalized players like Marques Bolden, Lester Prosper, and Anthony Beane. However, Rivaldo ensured that the Indonesian national team would still field its best squad to achieve maximum results.

However, Rivaldo emphasized that the team can still compete.

That doesn’t mean we can’t send the best team Indonesia has to compete there and deliver better results than in previous SEA Games,” he said.

To form the team, Perbasi called up 24 players, most of whom are new faces from scouting sessions at the IBL and the 2025 IBL All Indonesian event.

Rivaldo added that seven young players selected from the training camp (TC) last August were also called up to the September TC. They are Elgi Wimbardi, Adrian Chalias, Hendrick Xavi Yonga, Patrick Nikolas, Rio Disi, Arthur Vadel, and Dio Tirta.

During the preparation period, the national team is scheduled to undergo internal trials throughout September. The next program will include a tryout in Australia and a try-in, a domestic trial. This step was taken to further prepare the players for the intense competition.

Indonesia last won a gold medal at the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, held in 2022, with a record of six wins out of seven matches.
