iMSPORT.TV – Indonesia’s Chief de Mission (CdM) for the 2025 ASEAN Para Games, Prof. Dr. Reda Manthovani, revealed the readiness of the Indonesian athletes. He is optimistic that the Indonesian team can defend its overall championship title in the prestigious Southeast Asian sports event for people with disabilities.
The Indonesian contingent continues to prepare for the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand, January 20-26, 2026. The Indonesian athletes are solidifying their preparations in Solo, Central Java.
Reda confirmed that there are no obstacles in preparation. In fact, he said, athlete preparation has reached a significant stage, reaching 75 percent, and will reach 90 percent in the near future.
“Right now, we’re remaining focused on Solo. We have a national training center there, so the athletes are focused on Solo. As for the ASEAN Para Games next year, in January 2026,” Reda told reporters on Tuesday (September 30, 2025).
“Preparations are now 75 percent complete, as we have a timeline. We expect to reach 90 percent completion by October-November,” he continued.
ASEAN Para Games 2025: A Glimpse into Indonesian Athletes’ Readiness, Targeting Overall Champion
At the 2025 ASEAN Para Games, Reda stated that the Indonesian team’s target is to be the overall champion. He believes this mission is achievable, considering that the Indonesian contingent also achieved great success at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, winning 14 medals.
“God willing, our target is the overall champion, as in previous years. If we managed to win 14 medals at the Paralympics last year, hopefully we can maintain that. God willing, we can maintain that,” he emphasized.
The overall championship has indeed become a tradition for the Indonesian team at the ASEAN Para Games. The Indonesian athletes with disabilities are considered kings, having achieved this achievement since the 2017 edition in Malaysia.
The Indonesian team has been remarkably consistent in consistently winning the overall championship, including when they hosted the Games in Solo in 2022 and when they competed in Cambodia in 2023.
At the 2023 ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia, the Indonesian team achieved great success, winning 159 gold medals, 148 silver medals, and 94 bronze medals.
Furthermore, Reda has high hopes for Erick Thohir, the current Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora). He hopes that Minister Erick will pay more attention to Indonesian athletes who will compete in the 2025 ASEAN Para Games.
“With the new Minister of Youth and Sports, we already have a communication system, but hopefully, this new Minister, because he is passionate about sports, will pay more attention and allocate a budget for disabled athletes, so that disability sports can run more smoothly,” he concluded.
