iMSPORT.TV – Indonesian artistic gymnast Naufal Takdir Al Bari tragically passed away following a severe training accident in Penza, Russia, on Thursday (Sept. 25, WIB). The 19-year-old athlete took his last breath after undergoing 12 days of intensive treatment at G.A. Zakharyin Hospital.

Naufal Takdir Al Bari was regarded as one of Indonesia’s most talented gymnasts. His passing is a huge loss for the sporting community, especially the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation. He had been preparing to compete at the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2025, the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok, and was projected as a strong candidate to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Naufal Takdir Al Bari, together with four other national artistic gymnasts and two coaches, had been training at the Palace of Sport Training Center Burtasy since September 1, supported by the National Sports Training Center (PPON), Ministry of Youth and Sports of Indonesia.

During the training program, Naufal suffered a serious accident while practicing and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was treated in the ICU. All parties involved worked tirelessly to provide him with the best possible care.

The Indonesian Gymnastics Federation, together with the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, the Russian Gymnastics Federation, the Russian Embassy in Jakarta, and the hospital, have coordinated closely from the beginning to ensure that every process was carried out properly. Arrangements were also being made to assist Naufal’s family in traveling to Russia.

At present, we are in communication with the family, the East Java provincial gymnastics association, the Russian Gymnastics Federation, the Indonesian Embassy in Russia, and the Russian Embassy in Indonesia to ensure that the repatriation of Naufal’s body to Indonesia can be carried out as soon as possible,” Ita added.

Meanwhile, Russian media reported that Vasily Titov, Vice President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation, confirmed the circumstances of the accident.

“We extend our condolences to the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation, informed them of what happened, and have done everything necessary,” Titov said.
