
iMSPORT.TV – The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) is preparing 123 young athletes to strengthen the Indonesian contingent at the 2025 Asian Youth Games (AYG) in Manama, Bahrain, from October 22–31.
The Indonesian contingent will also be accompanied by 51 officials in the event, which will feature 24 sports.
Potential medal-winning sports include aquatics (swimming), athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, cycling, equestrian (show jumping), and e-sports. Indonesia will also compete in golf, judo, jiu-jitsu, muay thai, weightlifting, and mixed martial arts (MMA).
Other leading martial arts, such as taekwondo, will be a key component, along with young athletes in table tennis, teqball, triathlon, and indoor and beach volleyball.
Indonesia Prepares 123 Young Athletes for the 2025 Asian Youth Games
Akbar Nasution, Chief de Mission (CdM) of the 2025 Asian Youth Games (AYG), stated that Indonesia’s participation is a crucial opportunity to prepare the next generation of national athletes, targeting medals in their top sports.
“The AYG is a crucial opportunity to prepare the next generation of Indonesian athletes. The Indonesian NOC is ensuring all aspects of the departure process so that young athletes can perform optimally. From badminton, weightlifting, athletics, to swimming, we see a significant opportunity to win medals,” Akbar said, as reported on the official KOI website on Monday.
Akbar added that achievements at the 2025 AYG are not only measured by medals won, but also by international experience, which will provide valuable preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
The last Asian Youth Games was held in 2013 in Nanjing, China. Indonesia won one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, placing 15th in the final standings.
The 2025 AYG Bahrain will bring together more than 40 Asian countries, competing in 24 sports.
