iMSPORT.TV – Indonesia to Send Only 12 Athletes to 2025 SEA Games. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir (left) and Chairman of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC), Raja Sapta Oktohari, provide information after a meeting in Jakarta on Monday (September 22, 2025).
The meeting discussed preparations for international multi-event events, including the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. A post on Threads narrated that Indonesia could only send 12 athletes to the 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand.
The SEA Games itself is a multi-sport event involving 11 countries in the Southeast Asian region and is held every two years.
In the post, Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir stated that budget constraints were the reason Indonesia could only send 12 athletes.
The post featured the following caption:
“ONLY 12 INDONESIAN ATHLETES CAN BE SENT TO THE SEA GAMES IN THAILAND, ERICK THOHIR: MINIMUM BUDGET”
The post also included the following caption:
“There’s no budget for the SEA GAMES, MBG is going ahead.”
Indonesia to Send Only 12 Athletes to 2025 SEA Games
However, is it true that Indonesia will only send 12 athletes to the 2025 SEA Games?
The post narrates that Indonesia will only send 12 athletes to the 2025 SEA Games. In fact, this statement is baseless. (Threads)
Explanation:
Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir explained that Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has opened the opportunity for budget synchronization between the two ministries to support Indonesia’s participation in the 2025 SG.
According to Erick Thohir, the government has currently allocated a budget of IDR 10 billion to support Indonesia’s participation in the event.
With this amount of funding, Indonesia can send around 120 athletes, instead of the 12 mentioned in the post.
This number is still significantly lower than the average number of Indonesian athletes at previous SG, which ranged from 700 to 900.
Therefore, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is discussing budget increases in the next three months to increase the number of athletes sent.
“We are indeed focusing (on increasing the budget) for the SEA Games, because we feel that the SEA Games is still lacking,” Erick Thohir emphasized, as reported by ANTARA.
