PBSI Drops Apriyani Fadia from 2025 SEA Games Squad - iMSPORT.TV

iMSPORT.TV – Indonesia’s women’s doubles pair, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, have been confirmed to miss the 2025 SEA Games, which will take place on December 9–20 in Thailand.

Head coach of women’s doubles at the national training center (Pelatnas PBSI), Karel Mainaky, explained that Apriyani/Fadia are no longer considered at the Southeast Asian level. Instead, the duo will be focused on chasing ranking points in higher-level tournaments.

For now, no (SEA Games). Yes, it should be that way (Apri/Fadia’s level is not SEA Games anymore),” Karel said at Pelatnas PBSI, Cipayung, Wednesday (September 24, 2025).

According to the younger brother of Rexy and Richard Mainaky, Apriyani/Fadia were once Indonesia’s best women’s doubles pair in 2023.

They were ranked as high as world No. 4, winning three titles in World Tour Super 500 to 750 tournaments—Malaysia Open (2022), Singapore Open (2022), and Hong Kong Open (2023)—as well as finishing as runners-up at the 2023 World Championships.

In addition, the pair already have SEA Games gold medals to their name. Apriyani/Fadia won the women’s doubles gold at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam, while Apriyani also previously bagged gold alongside Greysia Polii at the 2019 SEA Games.

Yes, their main homework now is to chase more ranking points,” Karel added.

Apriyani/Fadia were reunited as a pair in August this year after several lineup adjustments made by Karel, aiming to elevate Indonesia’s women’s doubles to elite world level. However, Indonesian women’s doubles shuttlers are still struggling to consistently break into the top tier.

For the 2025 SEA Games, the women’s doubles pairs prepared are Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi/Lanny Tria Mayasari, Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum, and Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari.

For now, only those three new pairs are being prepared for the SEA Games,” Karel emphasized.

At the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, Indonesia’s women’s doubles contributed a gold medal through Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi and a silver medal via Meilysa Trias Puspitasari/Rachel Allessya Rose.

Overall, the Indonesian badminton team brought home five gold medals from Cambodia, with additional victories from Christian Adinata (men’s singles), Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan (men’s doubles), Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati (mixed doubles), and the men’s team event.

This year’s 2025 SEA Games will be staged across Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, Thailand.
