iMSPORT.TV – The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has officially appointed Alexander Zwiers as the new Technical Director of the Indonesian national team under a four-year contract.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir revealed three main reasons behind the federation’s decision to select the Dutchman for the role: his track record, commitment, and football philosophy.
Zwiers brings extensive experience in football development across multiple countries, including Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Qatar, and the Netherlands.
“If you look at his track record, his experience speaks for itself,”
Erick Thohir said, as quoted by BolaSport.com.
Currently, the Indonesian national team sits at 118th in the FIFA rankings, but Erick believes that within Asia, Indonesia has the potential to break into the top 20.
With Zwiers’ appointment, Erick hopes Indonesia can enter Asia’s top 10 within the next few years.
“Alexander Zwiers will be with us for the next four years,” Erick stated.
“He will live in Indonesia and work together with us to build a complete football ecosystem.”
Erick emphasized that the federation’s decision to select Zwiers was based on the belief that building a sustainable football system requires collaboration.
“We need strong commitment and continuous discussions with the National Team Committee and the coaching staff,” Erick added.
