iMSPORT.TV – Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, has assured that all athletes participating in the 2025 SEA Games, including the Cambodian contingent, will receive equal treatment and full security guarantees while in Thailand.
According to The Nation, Atthakorn stated that he has coordinated with senior officials of the Sports Authority of Thailand to ensure there is no discrimination against athletes from any country.
“We see them as athletes and honored guests. Our duty is to provide the best service in terms of comfort, accommodation, and security,” Atthakorn said.
His statement comes amid public concerns that political issues—such as potential provocations between delegations—could spill into the sporting arena. Atthakorn emphasized that athletes understand the values of sportsmanship and are coming as professionals focused on competition.
“Their job is to compete, and Thailand’s job is to ensure safety for all countries equally,” he added.
Atthakorn confirmed that around 300 athletes and officials have withdrawn from the event but declined to comment on other countries’ readiness.

Despite this, the Thai government remains focused on completing all preparations, including security measures, coordination with the police, and accommodation tailored to each sport.
Responding to concerns about athletes making symbolic statements related to border disputes, Atthakorn said such worries are understandable, but stressed that politics should not be brought into sports.
Regarding restrictions on politically themed recordings or social media uploads by athletes, he explained that the government does not have full authority to regulate such actions.
“We cannot prohibit Thai citizens from doing that, and we cannot prohibit the athletes either,” he said.
