
iMSPORT.TV – Indonesia is officially sending 996 athletes to compete at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. This large contingent reflects the nation’s strong ambition to maintain its dominance in Southeast Asia while preparing for a much bigger stage: the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir emphasized that this edition of the SEA Games is not just a medal hunt, but an imsportant benchmark to measure the readiness of Indonesian athletes for the global level. Thailand, he said, will serve as the most objective evaluation arena for those aiming to enter the Olympic program.
“We are using the Thailand SEA Games as a benchmark. Athletes who show stable and consistent performance will be pushed into the 2028 Olympic program,” Erick stated.

He noted that the results of this SEA Games will help determine which athletes deserve long-term investment on the road to the world’s biggest sporting event.
With a balanced mix of young talents and seasoned athletes, the 2025 SEA Games is expected to be a crucial momentum to gauge Indonesia’s competitiveness in the region, as well as its readiness for the global stage.
