iMSPORT.TV – Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports (Wamenpora), Taufik Hidayat, asked the review team to review the number of Indonesian athletes to be sent to the 2025 SEA Games.
The review results estimate that the Indonesian contingent will depart for Thailand at the end of the year consists of 1,110 athletes and 440 coaches.
Taufik said that so far Indonesia has never dispatched more than a thousand athletes except when they hosted it. So, that number needs to be reviewed.
“So, it must be ensured whether with such a large amount the budget is strong, both for departure and gold medal,” Taufik said as quoted by the Kemenpora website.
The directive to review the Indonesian contingent was conveyed by Taufik when chairing a coordination meeting (rakor) with a review team led directly by Prof. Yunyun Yudiana on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The meeting discussed in depth the national training camp program (pelatnas), sports selection, to projected medal targets that Indonesia wanted to achieve.
Taufik emphasized that the importance of making the right and efficient decision considering the remaining preparation time is only about two and a half months.
“It is necessary to strictly select sports that will be followed by considering the potential medals and effectiveness of the number of athletes,” he said.

The Indonesian contingent which will depart for the 2025 SEA Games is likely to prioritize sports that have medal potential and later have the opportunity to go to the 2028 Olympics and the 2026 Asian Games.
So far, 11 sports are part of the Road to Olympic Games 2028 program and 37 other sports will be focused on the Road to Asian Games 2026.
At the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, Indonesia won 87 gold medals and was ranked third. The same position will be targeted in Thailand with a target of 80-92 gold medals.
The 2025 SEA Games are scheduled to take place from 9-20 December 2025 in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla. A total of 50 sports will be competed in the biennial event.
