iMSPORT.TV – The Papua Provincial Government has released 10 tug-of-war athletes from the region who will represent Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
Acting Papua Regional Secretary, Suzana Wanggai, said in Jayapura on Friday that the participation of the Papuan athletes is a source of pride, as tug-of-war was officially introduced this year.
“Today we are releasing the Papuan tug-of-war athlete contingent to represent Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games. We hope the team will perform optimally and bring home achievements for the country,” she said.
They are expected to bring honor to Indonesia and demonstrate the quality of sports development in Papua.
“We hope the athletes will remain healthy from Jayapura until they arrive in Thailand, and continue to maintain the unity and good name of Papua and Indonesia,” she said.
The 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand will be a significant opportunity for Indonesia in this sport, and Papua is one of the largest contributors of athletes to the national team.

“The Papuan team will compete in five events, including men’s and women’s eight-on-eight, men’s and women’s four-on-four, and mixed doubles four-on-four,” he said.
However, of all these events, Papua has high hopes for the eight-on-eight class, as they are the defending champions of the National Recreational Sports Festival (Fornas)
