Two Indonesian Gymnasts Between The World Stage and Their Olympic Aspiration

iMSPORT.TV – Two Indonesian gymnasts have wrapped up their performances at the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships held at Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Oct. 21. This is my very first world championship, and it’s such a special experience—especially with Indonesia hosting and the crowd cheering for us. I was nervous, but overall, I’m proud of my performance today,” said Salsabilla.

I’m deeply honored to perform here. I feel proud of myself for giving my best. Having my family and friends watching made it even more meaningful it feels like all my hard work has paid off,” expressed Alarice.

The 53rd World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were not just for gymnasts; they also marked the debut of Indonesian WAG coach, Zahari. The opportunity to bring his student, Salsabilla, to the world level was used to learn new movement methods.

In my opinion, the girls performed quite well. Both in training and in competitions, there was no difference,” said Zahari in a press conference after the qualifying round.

Indonesia’s artistic gymnastics coach, Eva Butar Butar, also praised their performances. Competing for the first time at the FIG World Championships, both gymnasts managed to stay composed against world-class opponents, including Olympians.

They were able to overcome their nerves and give their best efforts while keeping safety as the top priority. This experience will be a valuable stepping stone for their future—especially as they set their sights on the Olympics,” said Eva.

Larasati Rengganis Injured

Unfortunately, Larasati Rengganis was unable to compete at the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships due to a finger fracture sustained the day before podium training.

During uneven bars practice, there was a slight mishandling in her grip, which caused her finger to hit the bar. Despite that, Laras’ enthusiasm was high she still joined podium training and even tested three apparatuses with clean execution,” said Indra Sibarani, the national team manager.

However, two days later, swelling occurred, and her hand became increasingly difficult to move. The medical team eventually decided to withdraw her from the competition,” he added.
